I was anticipating that there would be several rough pick-up truck ads in this magazine, but there was only one, a ford ad showing the progression of armer from a native american hide shield, a medieval metal shield, a modern kevlar shield, and then F-150 pick-up. this emphasis on protection instead of on power is actually a little surprising, although this ad was also in popular mechanics and so was not designed specifically with this magazine in mind. i wonder if the lack of other ads is because this is a regional and not a national publication? there were also two ads for car related products, car wax and car insurance. the former again emphaised the wax's value as protection, while the latter concentrated on the convenience of not having ot worry about your car/truck/boat/etc because your insurance company was doing it or you.
