Not only are there no car ads in here, there is a clear underlying thought pattern that you have to hike ot get anywhere interesting or worthwhile: 'the guy wore out a pair of boots, so it can't all be bullshit" (79). there are no ads for anythign car related either. there is a pretty strong environmental focus here, and a strong implication that you should be hiking to where you're fishing, because it's better for both your character and the environment.
