Beth Rieken

Beth Rieken completed her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford. She has a broad research base spanning a variety of topics within mechanical and aerospace engineering. She participated in research on scramjet combustion at the University of Virginia and NASA as an undergraduate. As a Stanford graduate student, she explored research in the Pruitt Microsystems Lab and in the Hanson Research Lab focusing on laser diagnostics. Her experience in many different lab settings gave her the perspective to study the ways that engineers think and solve design problems. She completed her dissertation research in the Designing Education Lab where she studied the benefits of mindfulness to innovation in engineering design.
