About

Ville is in his fourth year of Ph.D studies focusing on engineering education reform. The main focus in the action–based research is to create a new model for global interdisciplinary engineering education: O-CDIO where emphasis is more in the first phases of the engineering process: Observe-CDIO compared to traditional engineering education focusing only on problem solving (cdio.org). Engineering education has gone through several changes during the past 100 years. The on-going changes involve going back to more hands-on learning, adding human centered design experiences to the curriculum, more emphasis on pedagogic development and the use of educational technology. The trends are global by nature and the key questions are not what or why, key question is how. Ville is prototyping the new education structure with courses focusing on CDIO-based introduction to engineering-, product development Capstone-, Rapid prototyping- and Fuzzy front-end project management -courses. Prototype courses last from one week to nine months.
