Stanford Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Grappling Club

Welcome!

The Stanford Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling club is a safe and friendly place to train submission grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques. We have excellent instructors, and we offer 7 practices per week. See our times and location below. If you're interested strengthening your game, learning to defend yourself, or just a fun way to get a good workout in, we'd love to have you.

Marco Zulauf

Swiss-born Marco trained with BJJ Team Basel under Claude Jaeger, before moving to San Jose in 2012. Now he trains at the Caio Terra Academy with other world class fighters. In 2015 Marco was promoted to black belt by eleven time world champion Caio Terra. Marco was formerly ranked first in his division by the IBJJF. He is a two time European Open Champion, a three time American National Champion, and the 2015 No-gi Brown Belt World Champion. Marco is a certified teacher in Northern California under the Caio Terra Association. Marco teaches our morning classes.

Kevin Kopecky

Kevin started training at the Indiana University BJJ Club. After graduating, Kevin moved to Indianapolis to train with Atos affiliate Evan Mannweiler, American Top Team affiliate Carlos Diaz, and Carlson Gracie Jr. affiliate Alan Stockman. Kevin received his brown belt from Evan Mannweiler in 2014 and taught gi and no-gi classes at American Top Team Indianapolis until moving to California in November 2016. He is now a black belt. Through Jiu Jitsu and submission grappling, Kevin's goal is to provide people with a Way (道) that can effect positive change within their own lives and the lives of those around them. Kevin teaches our evening classes.

Gene Folgo

Gene is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Marco Nascimento and his instructor Adilson "Bitta" Lima. Gene began training through the club programs at Brown University. Gene has trained with Geoff Balme of Gracie Barra Boston at Brown and Gustavo Dantas of Nova União in Arizona. Upon moving to California in 2007, Gene began training under Marco Nascimento of Peninsula BJJ in Foster City. Gene has won gold at the 2008 American Cup; silver at the 2008 and 2009 U.S. Open, and the 2009 Pan American Championship; and bronze at the 2008 American National Championship. Gene teaches our afternoon class.




Location.

We're located on the Stanford campus, in the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation (ACSR). Most of our practices take place in the mat room, right by the front door. Our Tuesday and Thursday 11:30am-1pm practices are held in the wrestling room, in the basement of the Arrillage Family Sports Center building.




Schedule.

During our organization's review by the University, classes are currently canceled until further notice. For more information, please contact one of the officers.
We offer seven classes a week. Mornings, evenings, and Sunday afternoons--plus open mat.

We collect dues once an academic quarter. Each quarter is about 3 months long. For Spring 2019, pay dues here.
