Amy Freed
Artist in Residence, Drama Department

Amy Freed is the author of The Beard of Avon, Freedomland (both commissioned by South Coast Rep), The Psychic Life of Savages, and other plays. Her work has been produced at SCR, New York Theatre Workshop, Seattle Repertory, American Conservatory Theater, the Goodman Theatre, Playwright's Horizons, Woolly Mammoth, and other theaters around the country. Her recent play, Safe in Hell, another SCR commission, received its premiere production in April, 2004, and was presented at Yale Rep in the fall of 2005. Her newest play, Restoration Comedy, debuted at Seattle Repertory in December, 2005, and received its Bay Area premiere at the California Shakespeare Festival. Amy has been the recipient of the Joseph Kesselring Award, The Charles MacArthur Award, is a several times
winner of the LA Drama Critics Circle Award, and was a Pulitzer finalist for Freedomland.
