Scott Monroe, PhD - Collaborating Faculty

Monroe's research interests are in psychopathology generally, and in the mood disorders specifically. Much of his work has examined the role of life stress in the onset and course of major depression. His current focus is on how life stress interacts with cognitive and biological vulnerability factors to produce an episode of depression, and how these interactions may change with repeated recurrences of depression. The primary goal of the research program is to further understand etiological differences and subtype distinctions in major depressive disorders. A secondary goal is to shed light on differences between normal and abnormal responses to adversity, and to better appreciate the implications of these differences for defining and understanding mental disorders.
