Abstract | Various members of the Wnt gene family have been identified as activated oncogenes in mouse mammary tumors. We show that some tumors are oligoclonal for activation of a Wnt gene, and clonal variation when those tumors are transplanted to become hormone-independent. The normal function of many Wnt genes is to control pattern formation in early embryos, as shown by expression profiles and by mutant analysis. |
