TRANSMISSION [8]

There are four different ways in which the T. solium infection can be transmitted:

  1. Consumption of raw and/or undercooked pork products

  2. Human-to-human or pig-to-human transfer of T. solium eggs through direct contact with feces
  3. Human-to-human or pig-to-human transfer of T. solium eggs through consumption of food/water containing fecal matter (indirect)
  4. Autoinfection (See Note in "Life Cycle" section)

(1) leads to the pathogenesis of Taeniasis. (2) , (3), and (4) lead to the pathogenesis of cysticercosis. Note that, for autoinfective transmission to occur, the infected person must have Taeniasis.
