Aalto University

Aalto University is a new university with over a century of experience. Created in January 2010 from a high-profile merger between three leading universities in Finland — the Helsinki School of Economics, the Helsinki University of Technology, and the University of Art and Design Helsinki — Aalto exists to open up new possibilities for outstanding multi-disciplinary education and research.

The startup revolution around Aalto University and in Finland was started in late 2008 by Aalto students with the vision that Helsinki would become the technology and startup hub for Europe. Aalto Entrepreneurship Society was founded to bring together students and researchers interested in entrepreneurship.

Today, startup activities around Aalto University include the leading European open-sourced, seed-accelerator program Startup Sauna, and Summer of Startups, a startup summer school for student and researcher teams. Both of these programs have an international scope, and they attract talented startup teams from all around Europe, Russia, the US, India and China. In addition, Startup Life sends students to do internships in startups around the world and brings students from overseas to intern in Finnish startups.

Aalto Ventures Program is our response to the need to transform entrepreneurship education. Starting in Fall 2012, this graduate level minor program will provide engineers, designers and business students with the skills, knowledge and attitude needed to start world-class startup companies. In addition to bringing people together from different disciplines, program courses are taught by professors and practitioners from different schools of the university. The program is designed and implemented in close collaboration with the most respected entrepreneurs and investors from the region.
