The Stanford Chinese Music Ensemble (SCME) is Stanford’s official student group committed to playing a variety of traditional Chinese instruments and music. Founded in October 2011, the ensemble has already performed at various cultural and musical events, including the Stanford Chinese New Year Gala and the Pan-Asian Music Festival hosted by Stanford University. Conducted and directed by Hui (Daisy) You in Music Department at Stanford, SCME strives to promote cultural exchange and awareness about Chinese culture and to expand artistic creativity at Stanford by introducing students and faculty to a unique style of music. Anyone with an interest in learning Chinese instruments and a background in instrumental performance is welcome to join the ensemble.

We are designing new classes in conjunction with SCME practices right now. For people who want to take units, we suggest MUSIC 72G (1 unit option) or MUSIC 72GZ (0 unit option).

Our first meeting in 2019-20 Calendar year will be on September 24th (Tuesday), 7:30 – 8:50pm, at Dinkelspiel Rehearsal Hall G10 (Basement of Dinkelspiel Auditorium). We will decide the rehearsal schedule for the fall quarter during the session. If you cannot make it, please let us know!
