Located at the intersection of Via Labicana (1 and 3) and Via Merulana (2), the early Christian church of SS. Pietro e Marcellino was totally rebuilt in 1751 by the architect Theodoli, who gave it a central plan (Greek cross). The date is significant because it was built after the publication of the Nolli map (1748) which shows the earlier basilical-plan church before its demolition to make way for the building we see in the print. We note that the church is located in the disabitato (emptier part of the city), surrounded by farms and villas. Behind it is a Jesuit farm (Vigna del Noviziato dei Gesuiti). On the right appears the Vigna Cicolini with a sizeable farmhouse. At the left edge of the print we see a minor gate into the Villa Giustiniani. In the distance, perched on the edge of the Coelian hill, is the church of SS. Quattro Coronati (4), itself surrounded by farms and gardens.
