Imago Urbis: Giuseppe Vasi's Grand Tour of Rome

  057a.   [Chiesa di S. Prisca]

  1. Chiesa di S Prisca
  2. Convento dei Padri Agostiniani
  3. Strada che va alla Chiesa di S. Sabba

The 5th century church of S. Prisca (1) has undergone many restorations over time that have altered its original appearance including the one that resulted in the current façade by Lambardi from 1600. The church, which is bounded on the left side by its monastery of Augustinian priests (2) is located on the street of the same name (3) which traverses the Aventine hill from north to south. The continuation of this street to the right of the print leads to the church of S. Saba, Plate 57; NN 1066). The Nolli map shows the cluster of buildings depicted in this view to be entirely surrounded by fields.
