S. Maria Maddalena (1) was begun in 1673 but not completed until 1735. Despite the apparent cohesive style of the Baroque facade, its design passed through the hands of successive architects. The small piazza onto which it faces is part of a much larger colonnaded space which fronted the Pantheon, Plate 25, in ancient times. In the subtitles Vasi meticulously describes the two streets that define the corner on which the church and monastery are located. Via della Maddalena (2) leads off to the left in the direction of S. Maria in Campo Marzio, Plate 141, while on the right Vicolo delle Colonnelle (3) heads toward Piazza Capranica (NN 329).
