Appendix 2. Examples of Wing Margins with "Dot" Patterns.

This appendix includes 17 butterflies that have dot or dot-like patterns on their wing margins. Some margins show single rows of dots, others show double. One shows crescents, another shows elongated marks.

This example is from our text. The resemblance is not with a Monarch larva, but with a the dotted larva of a pipevine swallowtail (Battus philenor).

Note the double dotted pattern is seen on both fore- and hindwings.

The larva (right) was isolated from the background and modified to show the resemblance.
