Protozone, a video installation serves to introduce viewers to the discipline of microbiology, encouraging newcomers to collect and observe field specimens for themselves. Says the artist,  “I hoped to bridge the disciplines of art and science to create a work that is not only about the ecology of the Guadalupe River, but also uses the tools and methodologies of microbiology to sample and document the species.” The video can be viewed online at http://www.manofstone.com/2010/protozone/ Protozone hopes to translate how the microbial world signals the untimely death of the river.
