Don't let me die

Medium: oil on canvas
Year Produced: 2008
Dimensions in inches (H x W): 20" x 27"

With global warming, the ice caps melt and the Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) struggles to survive on its hunting grounds which shrink every day. At this rate, this splendid predator will disappear from the face of the Earth. My painting shows a polar bear under water: his eyes closed; air bubbling from his nose, a bear which will either swim to the surface and live, or give up and drown! Indeed, this consummate swimmer, without his precious ice floes, is condemned to die; weakened by hunger and too exhausted to find the now illusory iceberg. Why the title, ‘Don’t let me die’? Because it is our responsibility to prevent this animal disappearing from our planet.
