These fruit bats are such an important link to re-forestation. As forests are destroyed in tropical areas because of logging, these large flying mammals travel long distances to find new feeding grounds. Because they eat heavily seeded fruits, they are natures own automatic seeders. This particular kind of bat doesn't use echolocation to find food like small insect eating bats. They smell the food they seek. This species of bat is by far the most important to humans. Some fruits would not exist without them.
