Moccasin

Case:
November is Native American Heritage Month! "Rock you mocs" week is one of many ways to raise awareness about indigenous people, pride, and issues in our country. These women's moccasins (14857) were made by a woman living in the Arctic or Subarctic region in the early 20th century. She used seal skin, fur, and glass beads to create a bright floral design. We are especially struck by her artistic choice of orange and red beads to shade the petals. The pair was donated to Stanford by Mrs. Al Shultze of Petaluma, California on 20 April 1938.
