Hong Tan
Bio:
Hong founded Wave Crossing in 2000 and ForteBio in 2001. He established the R&D and manufacturing facility in China. After Wave Crossing merged with Global Optron (www.globaloptron.com), Hong envisioned potential opportunities in life sciences springing from the convergence of multiple technologies, and founded ForteBio (www.fortebio.com). He bootstrapped ForteBio under extremely difficult financial conditions. After the first venture capital financing in 2004, he assumed the CTO role and created the Octet product concept. He proposed, established, and managed ForteBio’s Chinese R&D and manufacturing operations, where many key components and millions of biosensors have been produced. His prior experience also includes developing data storage devices (Iomega, Seagate, Maxtor, Caleb Tech, Conner Tech, etc.) and space telescopes (NASA). He holds a PhD and MSEE from Auburn University and BSEE from Xi’an Jiao Tong University, China.
