William married, September 21, 1882 in Wadena, Wadena County, Minnesota, Zillah Catherine Hess. She was born September 21, 1861 in Goldfield, Wright County, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver Hess and Louise (Zimmerman) Hess. In 1880, before her marriage, Zillah Hess was living with her mother in Compton, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, and working as a school teacher.
