Doris Janine Kunde4 (Janine), born June 13, 1933 in Sacramento, Sacramento County, California, the daughter of Herman Rudolf Kunde3 and Doris Annette (Smith) Kunde.

She graduated from Orestimba Union High School , Newman, June 1, 1951. She was a teacher in Merced until her marriage.

Janine married, — –, 1955 in —, Theodore Amedeo Falasco (Ted). He was born April 15, 1921 in Los Banos, Merced County, California, the son of Domenico Falasco and Theresa (Bottafuoca) Falasco. Ted spent most of his life in his native town. He attended local schools and graduated from West Union High School in Los Banos, where he was student body president. He later attended Stanford University, where he was a graphic arts major, studied engineering and architecture, and was a member of Theta Chi. He graduated from Stanford in 1944. After World War II he served two years as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers in Japan.

Ted returned to Los Banos after his father died in 1946 to assume management of his family’s general contracting business. He took the business in new directions, expanding it to include allied businesses. With his siblings he formed the Los Banos Lumber and Sales Company and the Los Banos Gravel Group. Together with business partner Harold Neal he owned and operated Central Valley Concrete and Central Valley Trucking. While building his businesses he stayed active in community and cultural events. Ted’s Social Security card was issued in California.

Ted and Janine had two children together, as follows.

Janine returned to teaching kindergarten for a year about 1963.

Ted and Janine shared many interests, including the support of local community charities and non-profit organizations. Ted was a founder of the Merced County Economic Development Corporations and was affiliated with the Merced Symphony, Yosemite Area Boy Scouts, Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, Los Banos Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member the University of California, Merced Foundation Board of Trustees. The couple provided substantial gifts to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Los Banos, the Los Banos Arts Council, Memorial Hospital Los Banos and the University of Santa Clara. They also created scholarship funds at Los Banos High School and Our Lady of Fatima School and endowed professorships at the University of California, Merced, and the Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition to his business and community work, in his leisure time Ted enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing and golfing, and was an avid reader of history.

The Falascos lived in Los Banos in 1982 and 1986.

In 1996 the Falascos lived at 603 Page Street, Los Banos CA 93635.

Ted Falasco’s last residence was Los Banos, Merced County, California 93635. He died November 30, 2002, aged 81. He was survived by Janine, his wife of 47 years, two children, two grandchildren, two brothers, and one sister. Another sister preceded him in death. Visitation was held from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Los Banos, with a rosary following at 7:00 P.M. Hundreds turned out to celebrate his life. A Mass was celebrated at the church at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 5, followed by a private burial in Los Banos District Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Hayes officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Chapel in Los Banos.

In August, 2003 the Los Banos Arts Center was renamed the Ted Falasco Center for the Arts in his honor.
