Theodore Ernest Traudt3 (Ted), born August 24, 1900
in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri, the son of
Ernest William Traudt2 and
Nancy Judith (Wood) Traudt.
In 1916 his address was 715 North Ninth Street, Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He left home in 1917, at the age of 17, when he joined the navy and was sent to the naval base at Mare Island, near Vallejo, California. He served in World War I. He afterwards settled in northern California, between Fort Bragg and Eureka, where he worked in lumber. Ted married (first), — –, 19– in —, Hattie — —. She was born — –, 1–- in —, the daughter of — — and — (—) —. They were separated, and he moved to Washington. Ted began a forty-five year residence in Seattle, Washington about 1923. On August 7, 1925 he left on a five or six day journey to Yuba City, California to see his mother, and stopped that night Roseburg, Oregon. In September 1927 his address was the New Vendome Hotel, Seattle, Washington. Theodore first appears in the Seattle City Directory in 1929. From that year through 1932 he resided at 414 North Sixty-third, Seattle. His employer from 1929 through 1931 was the Pacific Coast Cement Company. His job with the firm was given as maintainer in 1929, pumpman in 1930, and compressorman in 1931. The name of his employer in 1932 was not stated, but his occupation was given as millwright. He does not appear in the directory for 1933. In 1934 he resided at the United States Marine Hospital, Seattle, where he worked as an attendant or orderly through 1941 or after. He lived there through at least 1936, and possibly later (his residence in 1937 is not given). Ted married (second), by 1938 in —, Hazel D— —. She was born about 1905 in —, Kansas, the daughter of — — and — (—) —. They had no children. In 1938 Ted and Hazel Traudt lived in a house at 4021 Forty-eighth Avenue, Seattle, which remained their residence throughout their marriage, and Ted's through 1951. From 1938 through 1941 Hazel was employed as a stenographer by Boston Dentists. Ted's marriage to Hazel lasted until the middle of 1942; she had left him by June 7 of that year. Hazel D. Traudt afterwards married, on December 23, 1942, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Seattle, King County, Washington, E— J— Black, Jr. Both were stated to be of King County, Washington at the time of their marriage. He was born — –, 1— in —, —, the son of E— J— Black, Sr. and — (—) Black. In World War Two Ted rejoined the navy. By October, 1942 he had the rank of Sgt. 2nd Class, Batt. #30, Co. C-1, and was at Camp Bradford, Norfolk, Virginia. Ted married (third), January 6, 1947 in Seattle, King County, Washington, Helen Hayes Leirridge. She was born — –, 1— in —, , the daughter of — — and — (—) —. They had no children. Ted was employed as a carrier by the post office from at least 1948 through 1961, although in 1951 he seems to have temporarily been made a postal clerk. Ted's third marriage was terminated in the period between 1948 and 1950.
Ted married (fourth), about 1950 in —, Edith Vesta (Graven) Scott. She was born February 3, 1907 in —, Missouri, the daughter of John William Graven and Mary Elizabeth (Harmon) Graven. She had married (first), — –, 19– in —, — Scott. He was born — –, 19– in —, the son of — Scott and — (—) Scott. There were no children from this marriage, though Edith had a child from her earlier marriage, as follows. Children:
From 1954 through 1959 Edith was employed by the North American Accident Insurance Company. During this time her job with the firm was variously given as claim adjuster, claim examiner, and claim inspector. From 1960 through 1961 she was employed by American National Insurance. In 1960 her occupation there was given as cashier, and in 1961 as office secretary. Both of the Traudts changed employers by 1963. From that year through at least 1967 Ted was employed by Washington Title Insurance as a chairman (for engineering, according to a statement in 1963). Edith was a cashier for the Louis F. De Franco Insurance Agency during the same period. The Traudts moved from Seattle to Coquille, Coos County, Oregon in 1968. Theodore died Monday, September 29, 1975 in Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon, aged 74. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 3, 1975 in the Coquille Chapel of Coos Mortuaries, Rev. David Fahner of the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Point officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Myrtle Crest Memorial Gardens in Myrtle Point, ten miles from Coquille. Theodore's grave bears a marker with the following inscription:
MAM US Navy World War II 1901 + 1975 Edith was living in Coquille at the time of her husband's death; afterwards she moved to Washington. She married, March 17, 1978 in Reno, Nevada, Clemens Prosper Farr (Clem), also of Washington. He was born June 5, 1907 in —, North Dakota, the son of Alfred W— Farr and Mary Pluma (—) Farr. His Social Security card was issued in North Dakota. The Farrs lived in Seattle, King County, Washington. Clem Farr died October –, 1979, aged 72. His last address was Seattle. Edith Farr died March 20, 1985, aged 78, in Seattle, King County, Washington. Her last address was Seattle. |
