Rewoven
by Brian Kunde
A stitch in time may rescue nine indeed,
For tears, once started, often tend to travel,
And ruination upon ruin feed—
So one small hole may one whole sheet unravel,
As tiny pocks on some great boulder seed
Anon disintegration into gravel—
For entropy, unstayed, with mounting speed
Whelms all, a truth at which not many cavil.
Spill wine, then, to Athena at her loom,
Reweaving lives the spiteful Moirai gaff,
Arachne’s sisters, eking out their doom
In corners, drawing fine-spun silk from chaff,
And all those goodwives gathered in their room
To patch, repair, and share a yarn or laugh!
