WRITING for REAL: Rhetorics of the Service-Learning Contact Zone

 Assignment

Portfolio Cover Letter and Section Introductions

Your complete writing portfolio for the class is due at my office by 3 p.m. on Monday, June 9. Preparing to submit your portfolio will include composing your final writing for the class:

The Portfolio Cover Letter:

In a cover letter, addressed to me, please introduce your quarter's work and assess your overall progress this quarter as a critical thinker, researcher, writerŠ and who knows? maybe even as a human being. What were your hopes, your goals for this class at the beginning of the quarter? How far and in what directions has the quarter's work brought you in achieving your goals of becoming a better a better critical thinker, researcher, speaker, and writer?

Section Introductions:

Briefly (that is, a paragraph or two) but specifically, reflect on your experience with and what you have learned in relation to each major assignment of the quarter. These introductions should precede sections containing

€ the Leap-of-Faith essay,

€ the Community Writing Project,

€ the Community Speaking Project

€ the Research Paper,

€ and the collaborative Grant Proposal.

I look forwarded to reading your "collected works"! Remember, the portfolio as a whole, and each section of it, is not only about the finished, most polished products that it contains; it is also about the process of getting there.
