Automorphy lifting

This will be a continuation of math 249B from last winter, where I was explaining as simple a proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem as I knew. I had reduced the problem to proving an automorphy lifting theorem for definite quaternion algebras over totally real fields, but only had time to sketch how that could be done. This semester I will give a detailed proof. I will try to make it accessible to those who didn’t attend math 249B, but it will be less motivated for such people.

After I complete the proof of the automorphy lifting theorem, I will discuss with the class what else to cover. Possibilities include more sophisticated automorphy lifting theorems or the old Borovoi–Milne proof of Langlands’ conjecture on the conjugation of Shimura varieties.
