Hello! This page has been developed to support some of the issues discussed in No Turning Back. I wrote this book not only as a history of feminism but also to acknowledge the many ways that feminist movements contribute to the lives of women and men throughout the contemporary world. As I talk about the book around the Photo of Estelle B. Freedmancountry, people frequently ask me how they can become involved with issues, communities, and organizations. I hope this page can help point readers to further information about feminism in the past and present. For teachers assigning No Turning Back in their classrooms, the following links provide further information on topics discussed in each chapter, including some primary historical documents that can be discussed in class.

I would like this web page, like the book, to allow readers to explore further the ideas presented in No Turning Back. As I wrote in the preface,

I hope that this book can do for others what early feminist writing did for me. At a time of profound changes in women's lives throughout the world, we need tools to probe more deeply into the meaning of gender. At a time when it would be easy to dwell on resistance to feminism, we need a longer historical perspective. Based on the vibrant scholarship surveyed here, I find that the prospects for women have never been brighter. We have much reason to hope that there will be no turning back from a feminist future.
