Honey BadgerParody can be a great way of getting at stereotypes. Watch the Honey Badger, a parody of a gay nature show narrator. This parody uses a wide variety of linguistic resources to construct a particular type of flamboyant gay persona. Your assignment is to describe as many of these resources as you can. Think about the source of each of these resources, and what they contribute to the style. BTW, Here is the link to the original National Geographic version. And here is the link to a high quality audio file, courtesy of Will Styler. Thanks Will! and here's a text grid to go with it. You will do this assignment in groups of 3-5 people. Each group will submit a brief (1-2 pages) report in class on July 11. The report should consist of a series of short statements about the resources you've found and what you think they mean. Longer reports are welcome, but not required. Be sure to include the names of all members of the group, for proper credit. |
