Above are the sound files and (imperfect) text grids of narratives to analyze - one told by a burnout and one told by a jock. The class is going to analyze the variation in these files together, and the work will take place as follows:
  • By class on July 25, everyone should listen carefully to both narratives. We will discuss the narratives briefly on that day. Students will divide into groups of 3-5 for analysis of the narratives.
  • By class on July 28, each group should discuss what they find interesting in the narratives, and what variables they might like to analyze.
  • In class on July 28, we will divide up the analytical labor so that each group is working on a different variable
  • By class on August 1, each group should have a completed analysis of their variable, and be prepared to present the analysis to the class.
  • On the last day of class, each group will submit a brief written analysis of their variable, and will present their analysis to the class. We will then put together what everyone has found.
  • The group member(s) who are taking the course for a grade will write up and present the group's analysis.
