About Elena Orlando
Elena Orlando is an astrophysicist at Stanford University, in California.
Theoretical and observational high-energy astrophysics and astroparticle physics are her main interests. She likes working with multifrequency data, and developing sophisticated models for propagation of cosmic rays to understand emission mechanisms from radio, microwaves, X-rays and gamma rays using data from multi-wavelength observations. The major observatories she is familiar with are Fermi Large Area Telescope, Planck, WMAP, INTEGRAL, EGRET, but she is also looking forward to look into CTA and SKA data.
HER LIFE IN SHORT
She was born in Italy and grew up in a small village in the nord-est of Italy.
She has worked for the most prestigeous Universities and Institutes of the world.
After her studies in physics at University of Trieste, she received the PhD at the Technical University of Munich (TUM, Germany) under the Marie Curie Early Treaning Program and she worked as researcher at the Max Planck Institute (MPE, Germany). At MPE she was working in the goup where the most important high-energy ESA telescopes were built (COMPTEL, EGRET, ROSAT, INTEGRAL, GROND, Fermi GRB Monitor, the furthcoming eROSITA). In 2010 she moved to Stanford University, at the Physics Department and the KAVLI Institute, which gave birth to the NASA Fermi Large Area Telescope.
