How to Get an Account

Requirements for a NetDB Account:

  • If you:
    • are a local network administrator (LNA)
    • administer a large number of machines (system or lab administrator)
    • need to change IP addresses often (e.g., central IT staff)
  • You have a valid SUNet ID
  • Your email and business phone number are accessible in Stanford Who to the Stanford community

To get an account, submit a ticket on HelpSU.

How to Logon to NetDB (version 4)

NetDB (version 4) has a web interface at http://netdb-test.stanford.edu.
NetDB (version 4) is supported on the following platforms:

Windows: Netscape 4.x and later, Mozilla 1.7 and later, Firefox 1.5 and later, Internet Explorer 6.x and later
Macintosh: Netscape 4.x and later
Unix: Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, Lynx

Stanford Web Authentication (WebAuth) is used to authenticate to NetDB

For Macintosh, Windows and Unix machines, open your web browser and go to http://netdb-test.stanford.edu.
You will be prompted to login with Stanford Web Authentication.

Your session will automatically end after one hour of inactivity. Any unsaved changes will be lost.

How to Get More Help or Send Comments

For the following problems, submit a ticket to HelpSU .

  • Changing your account settings
  • Using NetDB
  • Can't login
  • Don't know what addresses to use
  • Don't have access to a Node in your area
  • Record locked
  • Need to add or modify a department name, location name, or Node Make (e.g., Dell, Apple)
  • Feedback about the NetDB application
