Project 1 Process

My first project's idea and subject originates from the unreciprocated rotation of the moon around the earth, in which our planet revolves around the sun instead. I extended this concept to relate to unrequited love for someone who will never looked back at them the same way. The metaphors I came up with for this project included symbolizing the moon as the longing lover, the earth as the target of affection, and the sun as the earth’s love interest. In the animation, I personified the pictures (sun, earth, stars) to further emphasize these metaphors. In addition, I scraped my original metaphor idea of comparing the moon to a third-party person and decided on using the metaphor of “I am the moon”, so as to help the audience feel as if they are in the love conflict themselves.

To develop my final animation project, I first decided on my pictures being of stars to indicate that the setting takes place in space, earth to highlight the love interest and special “someone”, and a sun who, in the end, will receive the attention of earth. I then used classic tween to create motion to the stars, an earth that curves inward (to symbolize the loved one growing smaller), and effects to texts and other signs used in the video.
