Assignment 5: Problem 4I think that the most fundamental difference among my assignments 1, 3 and 5 is my attention to detail, and my newly-found willingness to work with primitives in order to come up with (what I think are) semi-entertaining works. This can be seen, for example, in my problem #5 of assignment #1, where I readily "threw down the towel" after not being able to line up Pascal's triangle in the appropriate way. However, in this week's work, for instance, I used the effect of overlapping ellipses in order to draw my self portrait. With this new tolerance for minute details, I have been treating the objects in my work more precisely, by using mathematical structures behind my work. For instance, my solution to problem #1 this week was constructed on the reference line y = 3x - 300 (keeping in mind that the origin is top-left, rather than bottom-left.) This results in an extreme amount of tedious calculations; however, I find the final product more aesthetically pleasing with its exact angles and shapes. This process really began in assignment 3 where I completely functionalized the process of drawing a figure in DBN. In my more recent works, I spend more time thinking geometrically about where each line and vertex should be placed simply with pen and paper than actually constructing the image on the computer.
Technically, I have become more proficient at taking a look at an image, and guess-timating what the pixel values should be. This has allowed me to take a very mathematical approach to my works. |
