Characters inside xfst Curly Braces

2003-05-15: The xfst curly-brace notation, e.g. {elephant}, is intended as an alternative to typing out all the letters with separating spaces, e.g. e l e p h a n t, in regular expressions.

The intent was to allow any simple character to appear inside curly braces, except for the closing curly brace }, which is obviously special as the terminating symbol. Shlomo Yona reported that the double quote was not allowed inside curly braces, which was a bug.

The bug has been fixed in versions 8.3.1 and higher. Thanks again to Shlomo for the report.
