30 Days of Ren Hang

30 Days of Ren Hang

On February 24th, 2017, Ren Hang took his life. An artist and poet, people described his work as provocative, rebellious, distinct, and most of all "pornographic". To me, Ren's artistic career embodied absolute liberation. He picked up photography as a way to escape boredom. Photographing friends, his mother, and marginalized gender-dysmorphic Chinese nationals. Ren never had an agenda. He made art to make art - chasing beauty, compositions, sensuality. It was what made his art incandescent. Despite his short life, Ren lives on as one of my favorite artists, this zine is a dedication to his legacy. For 30 days, I free-handed a photo taken from his archived portfolio website. Ren Hang gave many queer Asians a place to be seen. This zine is a 30-day celebration of Ren's life. Today, he would be 35 years old.
