Posted 01/08/2014 Note from Coach Blair: To All Prospective Homestead Baseball Players and Parents,
My name is Chuck Blair and I head up the HHS Baseball Program and coach the varsity team.
As we start the new year and interest builds in participating in our program, I thought I’d send out a note about what to expect and when.
Assisting me on the varsity staff is Homestead teacher, Kyle Bonvechio; JV Coach Gary Enriquez, is assisted by Vern Enriquez. In 2013 we fielded two very competitive teams in the most competitive public school league.
Homestead High participates in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. Information about the league can be found at http://www.scval.com/baseball_deanza.html.
Players have been conditioning prior to the new year Tuesdays and Thursdays after school (approx. 2:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) and this will continue until our mandatory practices begin on Monday, February 3.
CONDITIONING IS NOT MANDATORY but highly recommended as it gives the coaches a chance to meet and get to know the players prior to tryouts.
Games are played February through May, generally on Wednesdays and Fridays. When our schedule is prepared it will be posted on the HHS Athletics website (http://www.hhsathletics.com/index_files/BaseballSchedule.htm).
Players should put a priority on getting their physical and all paperwork completed before February 3rd. The paperwork package can be found at: http://fuhsd.ca.schoolloop.com/file/1234018431894/1224957820648/6284963230863447468.pdf
Onsite Physicals for Spring Sports are scheduled in the Trainer's Room at the Field House on Monday, January 27th and Monday, February 3rd at 3:30. The cost is $20. Players should arrive as early as possible as the attending doctor may depart when the athletes stop arriving.
I can be reached by email for any questions you may have. To assist with parent engagement, Ingrid Strotman has volunteered as our parent representative to the HHS Athletic Boosters organization.
In addition to representing us there, she is also happy to field any questions that parents may have and are perhaps not inclined to bring to the coach.
Some additional bits of info: · All baseball parents are encouraged to attend the Spring Sports Meeting which will be held at school the evening of Monday, February 13. · Gary and I will also be scheduling parent meetings for each JV and Varsity after teams have been determined. As much as I expect players to be responsible in sharing information with you, I find that these meetings are essential to you getting to know me and my expectations and to ensure we have a full set of contact information for parents on both teams. This is particularly important for JV as transportation arrangements need to be organized by the team as we have no school-provided bussing. · HHS Athletics website: http://www.hhsathletics.com/index.htm
Best regards and Happy New Year,
Chuck Blair
