· 7 Athletes advance to CCS Finals—How they got there (from Coach Sealy)

· on Saturday your Mustangs went to San Jose City College for CCS Trials, and left with the best showing by any Homestead team in recent times. We had some incredible performances and PR's by most of the kids. We had a total of seven athletes and one relay team that advanced to CCS Finals slated for this coming Friday evening. The  following athletes have advanced to CCS Finals on Friday at 6:00PM:

· Hannah Allen ran 5:06.62 for the 1600m, and missed her VG school record by a scant 1x100th of a second.

· Kailey Harvey ran the 400m in 59.00, and set a HHS sophomore school record. She narrowly missed the VG school record by 4x10th. It is the fastest time ever ran in 31 years by a girl. Quick note here...Kailey has only been running the 400m for about a month now. Her specialty has been mainly the 100m and 200m.

· Cooper Sloan ran the 3200m in 9:26.13. He has a faster time of 9:21.45 (He now sits #3 on the HHS All-time list) that he ran in April at Arcadia Invitational.

· VB 4x400m Relay comprised of (Kevin Nguyen, Tim Stoddard, Hakeem O'Neal, Michael Rhoads) ran 3:26.58 to solidify their place in the CCS 4x400m Final. That time now moves them to #5 on the All-Time list, and is the fastest time ran by a quartet in 20 years.

·       Other notable performances that didn't moved on to CCS Finals were:

· Michael Rhoads ran the 400m in 50.76 to finished 12th overall (top 8 fastest times advanced to the final) out of 32 runners. Michael's time broke the HHS Sophomore record that has been standing for 25 years, and move him to #6 on the VB HHS All-Time list. Interestingly also, Michael only took up this event about six weeks ago. Prior to this, he was a high jumper/sprinter.

· Jesse Chen competed in the long jump and finished 15 (top 12 advanced to CCS Final) with a leap of  20' 3"

· 1 Thrower Advances to CCS Finals—Update from Coach Arness

· Emma Seyer and Kiersten Chuc competed Saturday at the CCS Trials!

· Emma qualified for the CCS Finals next week in both the Shot Put and Discus! "Way to go, Emma!" That's Emma pictured above at San Jose City College during the CCS Top 8 Invitational earlier this season!

· Had, Kiersten, matched her PR in the Discus at the Trials, she would have come within a foot and a half from qualifying for the CCS Finals! "What a great year, Kiersten! All the best at Carnegie Mellon University!"

· Both Emma and Kiersten's contributions to the throwing programs at Monta Vista High School and at Homestead High School these last two years have been priceless! They have helped all of the Throwers to reach greater heights as a result of their example, hard work, encouragement and all around association! There work ethic as student-athletes is second to none! Both were awarded the Standard of Excellence/Award of Excellence two years in a row! Emma also was awarded Co-Most Outstanding Athlete for the entire MV Track team this year!  Emma and Kiersten and the HHS Throwers have made friendships with each other that will last throughout their lives! THANKS for two AMAZING years! You are true winners and champions - among the BEST in the entire country! And, yes, all this makes for  "wonderful memories for a lifetime!"

· HHS Throwers—update from Coach Andy:

· CONGRATULATIONS to Miranda Zinola for setting a new Homestead School Record in the Discus for a Freshman Girl!

Miranda threw the Discus 101' 3" during the Dual Meet yesterday against Wilcox High School breaking the old record of 93' 2"! FYI: She also placed 1st in the event and in the Shot Put!
"Way to go, Miranda!"

Just to put this 101' 3" throw in prospective:

101' 3" would have won the F/S Girls Discus Saturday at the Quicksilver Invitational by almost 10 feet! 101' 3" would have also won the F/S Girls Discus at the Serra Throwers Meet by 3 feet! 101' 3" would have placed 2nd at the CCS Top 8 Qualifier Meet (the leading throw at the F/S CCS Top 8 Qualifier Meet was 101' 8")with the Finals being next Friday)!  101' 3" would have placed 3rd at the St. Francis Invitational (the winning throw was 102' 11")! The
Homestead Sophomore Girls Discus Record is currently 107' 3"!

As you can tell by the picture (right), Miranda is about half the size of most her competitors! FYI: Miranda is the one in the middle wearing green!

The other picture of Miranda is of her throwing the Shot Put! She is currently
4th on the HHS All-Time Best List for  Freshman Girls Shot Put with a throw of 28' 8 1/2"! Her unofficial PR is 30 feet! The current Homestead Freshman Girls Shot Put Record is 32' 7"!
