Currently

I currently am a sixth-year Ph.D. student at Stanford University in the Neurosciences program, supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and a Hertz Fellowship. I am co-advised by Prof. Karl Deisseroth in the Departments of Bioengineering and Psychiatry and Prof. Liqun Luo in Department of Biology.

I am interested in developing new genetic, optical, and computational tools to measure and manipulate neural circuit dynamics in behaving animals, and applying them to understand the neural basis of motivated behavior. For the past several years, I have worked to develop and apply large-scale approaches to study global patterns of activity throughout multiple interconnected circuits, and methods to molecularly characterize cells defined by activity and spatial location.

Previously

In 2013, I received an M.Phil. in Computational Biology at the University of Cambridge on a Churchill Scholarship. I studied the physiology and anatomy of higher-order olfactory neurons in Drosophila in Dr. Gregory Jefferis's group at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.

The summer of 2012, I worked in Professor Kristin Scott's lab at UC Berkeley, developing optical methods to dissect neural circuits processing gustatory information in Drosophila melanogaster.

In May 2012, I graduated from Brown University with an Sc.B. in Applied Mathematics-Biology. While at Brown, I pursued research in synthetic biology, neurobiology, genomics, molecular genetics, and machine learning. The majority of my research focused on gene regulation in the mouse olfactory system, advised by Professor Gilad Barnea at Brown and Professor Stavros Lomvardas at UCSF (now at Columbia University).
