| Comments: | These 2 clusters are about 7000 light-years from us. The two are separated by 0.5 deg (roughly the diameter of a full moon) as viewed from Earth. They look impressive in most telescopes under low power. Though they are among the best known NGC objects, Messier somehow missed them in his famous catolog. NGC 869 is to the left (west) in the above photo. South is up. |
