Over-expression of TGF-β1 has been demonstrated by Dr. Wyss-Coray to reduce Aβ deposition in brain parenchyma of APP transgenic mice. I am currently working on a drug-screening project searching for small-molecule compounds that mimic the beneficial effect of TGF-β1.

Patricia Moran-Losada

Patricia is a bioinformatician interested in studying genetics and proteomics. She obtained her PhD from Hannover Medical School in January 2016 where she studied the microbial metagenome of the lower airways of cystic fibrosis individuals. She continued her research career as a postdoc in UC San Diego where she studied the impact of autism mutations in human brain organoids and mice. She joined the Wyss-Coray lab in March 2019 where she is part of the Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) contributing to the understanding and discovery of novel biomarkers for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

I received my PhD degree from Zhejiang University in China in 2019. I joined the Wyss-Coray lab in Oct 2019 to explore the role of microglia in aging. My work mainly focuses on how systemic factors may affect brain immune functions. Outside of the lab, I enjoy playing basketball and tennis.

I received my Ph.D. degree in Medical Neuroscience in 2022 from Indiana University School of Medicine. I was mentored by Drs. Bruce Lamb and Gary Landreth. My thesis project focused on genetic modulation and the role of microglial phenotypes in Alzheimer’s disease. I joined the Wyss-Coray lab in 2022 to identify biological pathways and networks that shift aging profiles, and generate tangible models to quantify rates of aging, slowing the progression of age-related cognitive decline.

I received my PhD degree in Biology in 2020 from the University of Notre Dame. My thesis project focused on the role of microglia in fostering an immune-suppresive tumor microenvironment during brain metastasis. I joined the Wyss-Coray lab in 2020 to explore the genetic, systemic, and environmental factors that influence aging in the Killifish model. Outside of the lab, I enjoy being outdoors, running, and cheering on Philly and Notre Dame sports teams.
