In Colombia, Capybaras are known as the chigüiro. They tend to live on the open plains in the eastern region of Colombia. They are considered a real delicacy and are easy to spot in the dry season.
The Capybara is native to South America and one of the most widespread of Peruvian mammals. They are the easiest wild creature to see on a wildlife tour in Peru. It's close, but very large, cousin of the Guinea Pig, which is also indigenous to Peru.
