Announcements

  • Welcome to CS110!

    Saturday, January 5th

If you're here, we're assuming you're taking (or at least considering) CS110 this quarter. Chris and Jerry are your friendly CS110 lecturers and are set to fire up on Monday, January 7th, and we're looking forward to meeting all of you and having a great quarter together!

You don't need to do much for the class prior to this coming Monday, but there are some announcements we'd like to ask of you ahead of time anyway, since they're important.

    • Register for the course on Axess if you haven't already. We're expecting there to be about 250 students in the class this quarter, but we'd like an accurate enrollment figure sooner than later so we can hire additional teaching staff if necessary.
    • Hop over to Piazza and sign up for the class forum as soon as you've committed to taking the class. We'll be relying on Piazza for structured questions where students, CA's, and both instructors can formally collaborate to ensure your questions about all things CS110 are answered.
    • If you'd like to, you can also sign up for our Slack group at cs110.slack.com. The CA's won't be paying attention to Slack, but the instructors will be, and it's a really fast way to get in touch with us if you have some questions that need to be addressed. You're also free to post questions to channels we'll set up for each of the assignments so you can get answers for students fairly quickly. If you're pretty sure the question should be answered by a staff member and/or is of interest to all students, turn to Piazza for that.
    • Confirm that you can take my final exam on Wednesday, March 20th at either 3:30pm or 7:00pm. The 3:30pm offering is set aside specifically for classes that meet when CS110 does, so in theory, 100% of you should be able to take it at that time. If (and only if) you are taking a second class during the same time slot and its final exam competes with ours are you permitted to take the 7:00pm offering. And if you fall into this 7:00pm camp, you should email Jerry and let him know once you've finalized your schedule.

That's all from Administration Land. I'm looking forward to meeting each and every one of you and advancing your systems programming game over the course of the next eleven weeks.
