TransitMate

Public transportation made safer.

Our mission is to ensure that someone using public transportation feels safe and “unalone” throughout their trip.

Problem-Solution Overview

Through need-finding interviews, we found that interviewees who used public transportation often felt scared traveling alone, especially at night and in unfamiliar places. We hope to allay these fears by making it easier for people to let friends know where they are throughout their trip and immediately connect to trusted friends when they feel unsafe.

Concept

Our concept video exemplifies a use case for the TransitMate app. Overall, we hope to promote safety while traveling and using public transportation.

High-Fidelity Prototype 1

Our high-fidelity prototype was built using React Native and Expo, with Xcode used to simulate the app.

Process

Needfinding

Interviews conducted with varying types of users of public transportation to find why people use (or don't use) public transportation.

Low-fi Prototype & Testing

Low-fidelity prototype created on Miro and Balsamiq. With it, we conducted usability testing focusing on five task flows.

Medium-fi Prototype

Medium-fidelity prototype created on Figma. We structured four task flows rather than five to optimize design and usability.

Group Heuristic Evaluation

Our fellow studio-mates used Jakob Nielsen's Heuristic Evaluation techniques to give us a full and concise evaluation of our medium-fi prototype, which we used to revise it and implement our high-fi prototype.

Hi-fi Prototype

Interactive high-fidelity prototype created using React Native and Expo. It consists of an interface redesign with the most severe heuristic violations addressed. This prototype is sufficient for carrying out a usability test.
