Lightness and Darkness is a frequently used metaphorical source domain when trying to talk about life and death, as well as good and bad. The reverse is also true: you might say my line of text "dies" as it starts to fade into the surrounding black just as you might say that a dying person is going into the darkness.

Does the light metaphor help us to understand the target domain of death? OR certainly uses a lot of brightness and darkness. On video it is probably easier to try to read these stage conditions rather than to simply experience them, yet it would be misleading to think that the experience of darkenss or white-out is very similar to the experience of death although both might involve the cessation of visual stimulus.
