In addition to the two lectures per week, there will be mandatory section. They will occur three times during the week, spread over Fridays and Mondays. The purpose of the sections is to address any questions pertaining to the readings and homeworks.
Grading:
The course is designed as a set of three independent modules, each of which will last approximately three weeks. At the end of each module, there will be a take-home Module Review, which will be due one week after in it handed out. Also, for weeks when there is no review, there will be a brief homework. These homeworks will be handed out on Thursday and are due the following Tuesday.
The third Module Review will serve as substitute
for a final exam.

Late Homeworks:
Approval for handing in assignments late must be obtained by 5p.m. the day before the assignment is due. If you have medical or other comparably good reasons to turn something late, contact Gary for approval at ggongwer@csli.stanford.edu
Group Work:
Group work is allowed for the homeworks, but not for the Module Reviews. If you do choose to work in groups for the homeworks, you must do your write-up individually.
