Correlation and Regression

So far, we have dealt with data that involved a single variable x .  In this section, we shall investigate paired variables x  and y .  Here's a list of paired variables:

When confronted with paired or Bivariate data, we are often confronted with two questions: is there a relationship between the variable x  and its counterpart y , and if so what is the exact nature of the relationship?

Correlation

involves discovering whether a linear relationship actually exists between 2 sets of variables by using a Scatter Diagram, and the linear correlation coefficent.

Regression

explores the expression of this relationship with the use of a Regression Line.
