Drug Profile

No virus-specific therapy available.

Live oral vaccines for adenovirus serotypes 4 and 7 are available for military recruits. These vaccines have markedly reduced acute respiratory disease in military populations. They are neither recommended nor available for civilian use. Spread of virus through vaccines is possible but inconsequential. Vaccines for a few other serotypes have been developed but are not yet commercially available. A new vaccine made by Barr Laboratories is expected to be released in 2008.
