Viral Example: Rift Valley Fever Virus
General Characteristics:
  • Most are transmitted by blood-sucking sand-flies
  • Some, such as Rift Valley Fever Virus, can cause Hemorrhagic Fever Syndrome
  • Ambisense Segment - one of Phlebovirus's three segments contains ambisense RNA. This means that the RNA segment has both coding and non-coding regions on the same segment. When transcribed, the new strand will also have coding and noncoding regions, but they will be inverted.
