Stat 319 : Schedule

Write to me by January 13, in order to fix a day and a paper that you want to present.

Below I will post the presentation schedule. You are required to attend all the presentations!

In order to make your presentation accessible, please make sure that the material fits in the allocated time (50 minutes). You can for instance do a dry run, to be sure that the presentation fits in the time. Keep in mind that in the actual presentation there will be questions. Also, keep in mind that it is easy to under-estimate the time needed to present.

Here is a suggested template:

  1. Background and motivations (10 mins)

  2. Statement of main results (10 mins)

  3. Technical developments (proofs, empirical evidence, implementation) (30 mins) In some of the more mathematical papers, it is impossible to present all of the proof in 30 mins. A possibility is the following:

    1. Describe the overall proof strategy

    2. Describe a few selected steps of the proof, that are most interesting

We will devote 20 minutes to questions/discussion

One final recommendation: You are supposed to understand the paper you are presenting. In some cases, this might require reading some additional material.
