Stanford PreCollegiate Studies
(SPCS) is an umbrella organization which coordinates many of the outreach activities at Stanford. It grew out of the former Educational Program for Gifted Youth
(EPGY), which was created by Professor Pat Suppes in the early 1990’s. Many of the online courses created by EPGY were licensed to Redbird Advanced Learning in 2013. Redbird is substantially renovating these courses to adapt them to new platforms, but they remain firmly based on Suppes’ pedagogical methods.
I was named the Faculty Director of SPCS in 2010, following Professor Suppes’ long tenure in that position.
The main current activities at SPCS include the Stanford Online High School, the residential summer programs run by our Summer Institute program, the Stanford University Math Camp (SUMaC) (which I cofounded together with my colleague Ralph Cohen in 1995). Please see the SPCS web page for more information.
